Cricketer's Arms Six Sixes Ale Portfolio
The Cricketer's Arms: Food and Ale House, Littleworth, Oxford. The little pub with the BIG welcome
Cricketer's Arms, Littleworth, Oxford, OX33 1TR

The Cricketer's Arms SixSixes Ale Portfolio The Cricketer's Arms is committed to offering its customers a selection of local quality real ales and to establish this, we have developed our "SixSixes" ale portfolio. What this means is that all our real ales travel no further than thirty six miles from brewery to pub (B2P), so you can always enjoy two locally produced, fresh and tasty English ales.

Six sixes is the perfect over in cricket. So "SixSixes" is the perfect ale portfolio for The Cricketer's Arms!

We think it is important that our ales come from within a thirty six mile radius because too many English ales and breweries (and traditional pubs to drink them in) have fallen by the way side over the last few decades, but small businesses, the life-blood of our nation, are keeping alive our unique brewing heritage, using traditional techniques and natural ingredients. And of course, by buying local, we're also playing our part in saving the planet.

Local Real Ales Real ale is made from four natural ingredients: Malted barley, hops, yeast and water. Although these ingredients are very simple, in the hands of a skilled brewers they come together to produce a symphony of colours, aromas and tastes that make quality real ale a joy to drink. It is a living, breathing product that undergoes a natural secondary fermentation and maturation in the cask from which it is served from in The Cricketer's Arms.

It is said when you are in a country you should drink the wine of the country. However, when in Britain, people should drink the beer of the country. Beer is Britain's national drink; it is our Beaujolais, Chardonnay, Chablis and Champagne all rolled into one.

Make March Mild Month This March, we have a selection of great local Milds to try. Mild is a style of ale that is not seen as often these days as it once was. In the 1950's, the majority of beer sold was mild ale, very popular with the working classes and very much the staple drink. It is one of the most traditional beer styles, and whilst it is enjoying a small revival in today's real ale market, it still only accounts for an estimated 3-5% of all real ale sales. Mild has perhaps been overshadowed in recent years by more fashionable beers such as golden ales and premium bitters. They are usually dark in colour, due to the use of well-roasted malts or barley, and are often less hopped than bitters, having a chocolatey character with nutty burnt flavours.
